This free printable 1950s party invitation is perfect for those who were there when people were dancing to Bill Haley's Rock Around the Clock -- and for those who just wish they had been there. As an homage to the '50s, this 5" x 7" horizontal invitation template features a "Rock Around the Clock" LP record, a jukebox resplendent with colorful neon and chrome, and the checkerboard and diamond patterns so associated with the fifties.

Because there's no particular usage indicated on the invitation art, it's perfect for virtually any kind of occasion: anniversaries, birthdays, retirement parties, and of course, high school or college reunions. This free winter party invitation features a very joyful snowman, celebrating the arrival of winter. I chose him for this square-format invitation design because he expresses pretty much the way I feel about the impending winter season. After living in the South Florida heat for many years, I finally fulfilled my dream this year and moved to Georgia, where they have actual seasons. So instead of wearing shorts and a tank top to Christmas dinner, I'll be wrapped in winterwear and loving it.

Speaking of winterwear, this snowman is quite well prepared for the snow that is his lifeblood. He has a vest and a nice warm wool scarf, in soothing shades of magenta and purple-blue to match the rest of the invitation design. His non-denominational color scheme means you can use this as a generic holiday party invitation, too, and not leave anyone out.

There's nothing subtle about this free Thanksgiving party invitation that boldly portrays the feeling of autumn. It has flowers, berries and leaves in all the colors we usually associate with fall: orange, crimson, green, brown, gold and maroon. It also has a subtle lace pattern in the background, which balances the more natural aspects conveyed by the leaves and flowers. It has an overall warmth that will make your guests feel welcome.

This cocktail reception invitation is a little bit retro and a little bit this century. The cute cartoon woman who's drinking a martini is wearing a classic little black dress and pearls, which are just as hip today as they were in the 1950s. (Although this invitation features an admittedly very modern take on that classic outfit that literally spans centuries). The Fabulous 50s font by Pelle Piano used on the "Cocktail Party" heading purposely has a mid-century vibe to it, and the stripes, star doodads and asymmetrical background also lend a 50s feeling. I think all the elements work together to create a fun and (I hope) useful cocktail party invitation.

Summer will be here before we know it. If you have a pool, chances are you'll have at least one pool party during the season. And if you have kids, there may be a lot more than that! The bright colors and cute smiling sun and stylized water in this design make it interesting enough to use for kids pool party invitations but it's also appropriate if you're just inviting adults. It has some of my favorite colors -- yellow, orange, teal and magenta -- which to me to say "summer."

I'm rather partial to this Father's Day party invitation template, because it was so much fun to make. It's kind of funky/shabby chic, yet it has some nice colors that I think are appealing. I love the montage of leaves, string, buttons and tags that all work together to pay homage to Dad. You really have to see this one full size to appreciate all the detail.

This free printable graduation party invitation design is for those who don't necessarily want to go the rah-rah class color route and prefer something a little softer. Some might say that the salmon, yellow and gray color scheme would make it a good invitation for graduation parties thrown by and for women or girls, but it's not necessarily so feminine that men and boys couldn't use it too.

Like the other free printable graduation invitation template I posted last year, this design features an image from Picnik.com. If you haven't tried it, Picnik is a free graphic design Web site, similar to Photoshop -- except it's free! It's a lot of fun. This free printable Mothers Day invitation is a little old fashioned but that somehow seemed appropriate for Mother's Day. But then again purple and lace are pretty timeless, so maybe it's not so old fashioned after all. The design features antique-looking lace overlaid on purple fabric, bordered by a satin ribbon, a purple pansy, baby's breath (how appropriate for Mothers Day!) and some ivy.

Blue Seas Beach Wedding Invitations

The seashells and very subtle blue plaid in this free 5" x 7" "Blue Seas" beach wedding or commitment ceremony invitation template reminds me of Newport (either the one in California or on the East Coast; take your pick), because they're beachy and sophisticated but not too formal. Think Vera Wang gown worn with bare feet. :-)

The design is actually pretty versatile. It can be used vertically or horizontally, and be cropped for use as response and thank you cards, place cards and even cupcake toppers if you have a circle cutter. It can also be used for occasions other than getting hitched, such as for an anniversary, retirement or engagement party, or high tea on the beach.

This free personal use Valentine's Day party invitation template has a simple color scheme: pink and black. I love the simplicity of those two colors and how well they work together. For some reason, that color combination reminds me of Paris. (Not that I've ever been there, mind you!) Since Paris is the City of Love and this is a Valentine's day party invitation, that seems appropriate.

I just love the soft colors in this holiday party invitation template. Because of the blue color and generic winter design, can be used for Hanukkah, Christmas or New Year parties, or just plain winter get-togethers. There's nothing in the design that tilts it one way or another, holiday-wise. It does feature something I haven't seen too much of in my life though: snowflakes. Between growing up in Southern California and then moving to South Florida, sunshine has been more the norm in my life than snow.

Unlike the other free Halloween invitation template I posted, which is very sweet and cute, this one is downright macabre. But that's what Halloween's about, right? This free boys birthday party invitation template features a black and white polka dot border and the purple B-Day1 rocket ship, flying through a beautiful blue sky. (Although I'm officially calling it a boys invitation, there's absolutely no reason why it couldn't be used for a girl's birthday party instead!) This invitation design made use of the Jamie Dell Scraps Boys Will Be Boys kit. As always, I thank her for allowing me to use her images in my designs. Speaking of boys who are definitely boys, the inspiration for this design was my nephew Spencer, who loves anything having to do with outer space. In fact, he actually writes about space and draws pictures to match for books that his mom binds for him. He's quite talented for a six-year-old, as you'll see in this hilarious card he gave his Uncle Dave and I for Valentine's Day, which has a novel, space-themed way of describing that I'm 5' tall and his uncle is 6'1":

This printable party invitation template isn't really vintage, but it looks enough like it to qualify. I call this design Vintage Princess, because there's a tiny gold crown topping the oval frame that reads "You're Invited," and the brocade fabric and delicate white flowers have a regal look. (This design was created for adults. If you're looking for a more modern looking princess party invitation for a young girl, please click the link in this sentence.)

The flower and crown motifs used in this design are Far Far Hill creations, and I very much appreciate being allowed to use them. And the lovely brocade paper comes from Jamie Dell Scraps. Thanks to her too.

This free pink wedding invitation template could definitely be called modern -- yet I think it has a certain classic feel to it as well. (But then again, I'm probably a little biased!) The subtle swirls in white and very pale purple surrounding the bordered area where the text goes could be described on one end of the spectrum as grunge flowers or on the other as elegant flourishes. I'll leave it to you to decide. Update 7-20-2010: I just posted a blue wedding invitation that has the same design.

Aye, matey, this be a free pirate party invitation, suitable for pirates young and old. This A7- or A4-sized invitation; which simulates a washed-up pirate chest with pirate coins, sand, water droplets and ferns; could certainly be used as a boys birthday party invitation (or even one for a young pirate-loving girl). But I think adults would find it useful too.

I'm very happy with the way this invitation turned out, which is due in no small part to images I obtained from WP Clip Art and Jamie Dell Scraps pirate booty freebie kit. Both offer some wonderful free pirate images.

Free Commitment Ceremony Invitations

This free printable black and white commitment ceremony invitation template would also be great as wedding invitation. Its elegant script message that reads "Join Us for a Celebration of Our Love" would certainly work well for either event.

The design of this 5" x 7" invitation features a regal black and white flourish border and the heading is also in black. But if you'd like to highlight it with an accent color, that's easy to do. If you don't have a graphics program such as Photoshop, Publisher, Fireworks or similar, you can just pop the invitation template into Microsoft Word (butt two of the invitation images right next to each other for the most efficient use of space) and then add a text box that fits exactly over the white area. Choose a color for the text box border and then select the option to make the inside of the text box transparent. I tried this with both red and magenta and they both looked wonderful. (If you choose, you can also remove the heading text by placing a text box with a white background over it.) If you don't know how to use text boxes in MS Word, consult the Word help menu or do a web search for "Word text box tutorial" or something similar.

Many Americans throw BBQs and other types of parties for Memorial Day, so I thought this Memorial Day party invitation might be helpful. For those outside the U.S. who aren't familiar with Memorial Day, it's a federal holiday that officially commemorates American veterans who died while serving in the U.S. military. In 2010 it will be celebrated on May 31, in 2011 it falls on May 30 and in 2012 it will be on May 28. Because of its proximity to summer, the three-day Memorial Day weekend is often thought of as the first big weekend of summer. So even though its purpose is somewhat somber, it's party time for a lot of Americans.

Free Fathers Day Invitations

If you'll be having guests to honor Dad on Father's Day, why not use this free horizontal 5" x 7" invitation to invite them? Even if you'll just be inviting family, it's wonderful to add a sense of formality by sending invitations. But this brown and caramel colored Father's Day invitation isn't too formal; it has just enough touches of whimsy to keep it light and fun.

Free 4th of July Invitations

This free 4th of July invitation will definitely inform your potential party guests of your patriotism! The stylized blue star with a red stripe tail form a kind-of marriage between the American flag and fireworks. The image is certainly cheerful and I'm sure it will give your guests a preview of the party festivities to come. If you prefer a less patriotic and more generic summer invitation for your July 4th party, click the link in this sentence.

This July 4th invitation is configured to fit A7 or A4 size envelopes, but you can make it any size you want if you'll be handing the invitations out in person or e-mailing them. To e-mail, just print out one copy, fill in the party information, scan the copy with the writing on it and paste the image into an e-mail. Make the dpi between 72-100 when you scan it, so the e-mail won't be too large to send.

Free Baseball Birthday Invitations

In the old days you could just assume that this free baseball birthday invitation template would be used for a boys birthday party. But these days, because girls can do anything boys do, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were also used as a girls party invitation.

I've been spending a lot of time lately designing decidedly feminine invitations, such as the princess birthday party invitation and my butterfly girls invitation in the two preceding posts. So this sports invitation makes up for that fact and gives some equal time to the boys. It features a catcher's mitt and a baseball, and the background has the blue and white stripes you see on so many baseball uniforms.

This free pink girls birthday invitation features a cheerful butterfly in the happy spring colors of purple and lime green. You may recognize the pink polka dot background from my princess birthday party invitation design, which I posted a few days ago. I love pink and polka dots, so I couldn't resist re-purposing the background for girls who want a more generic party invitation.

Free Princess Birthday Party Invitations

This pink princess party invitation is probably one of my favorites of all the invitations I've designed. The girly-girl pink polka dot background with a purple accent and a regal princess crown is definitely fit for pint-size royalty. It makes me wish I were eight-years-old again, so I could use it myself! This design would make a great princess birthday party invitation, but it could also be used as an invitation to a recital or teddy bear tea party.

If you like soft, feminine colors (and I really do!), I also have some blank invitation templates in the same relative shades that I created for Quinceanera invitations (for Latin American girls' 15th birthday parties). They don't have writing on them, so you could add text to the pastel pink, purple or white backgrounds and make your own invitation. Free Black, Pink and White Wedding Invitations

The black and pink design on this 5" x 7" white wedding invitation template is bold and modern. It's not your mama's wedding invitation, that's for sure. (Unless your mom is a whole lot more modern than mine was!)

Graceful but slightly grungy black vines encompass the bottom left corner of the invitation template and are softened by pink vines and delicate pink butterflies. These give a stark contrast to the white background, creating a cool, modern statement.

Summer will be here soon, which means you'll probably have use for this summer party invitation. There are so many uses for it: a backyard BBQ, a retro luau party, a birthday party or even a summer cocktail party! The design is generic enough to work for all those occasions; and without saying it explicitly, it automatically conveys the warmth and fun of summer.

Free Blank Pink Quinceanera Invitations

If you're not specifically looking for Quinceanera invitations, then you might not even know what a Quinceanera is. The short answer is that it's a Latin American rite of passage undergone by a 15-year-old girl to mark the transition from childhood to adulthood. It's both a religious and social experience, and it's usually quite formal. That's why the blank Quinceanera invitation template shown here looks a lot like a wedding invitation. Except this one is in pretty pink with modern flourishes, which is perfect for a teenage girl. Feel free to use it as a wedding invitation template though!

This free purple wedding invitation template has a subtle intertwining vine motif that is designed to be used horizontally. But you could also turn it on its side and use it vertically. If you do, I would advise using the left edge as the top.

This blank invitation template obviously doesn't have any wording or lines to write information, because the idea is that you would add your own text in a word processing or graphics program. Because of that, this design could also be used for housewarming, birthday party or anniversary invitations, or for virtually any other type of party you can think of.

The template features vintage travel posters from the mid-twentieth century and what I call "Kodak colors," because the yellow and red remind me of the Kodak boxes that photographic slides used to come in when I was a kid. Before digital imagery, if you wanted good quality pictures, you had to shoot slides. My dad took a lot of photos, so we had a lot of slide boxes.

I just love the vintage travel posters in this design, which come from Vintagerio. They depict New York, Chicago, Texas, Hawaii, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and other tourist destinations, and they're wonderfully cheerful and colorful. I just had to post this free printable BBQ and cookout invitation template today, because it's so cold in my office. I wanted a reminder of barbecues and cookouts in the warmer days to come. Free Black and White Wedding Invitations

This free flat panel A7 (5" x 7") black and white wedding invitation template has a classy flourish pattern that looks elegant whether used vertically or horizontally. (See below for an example of a vertical wedding invitation using this design.)

All you have to do is download the artwork and click the button at the bottom of this post to go to my free printable wedding invitations hub. There you'll find all the instructions you need for implementation, plus 11 more free designs. I've also provided some wedding invitation wording samples on that hub, if you need a little help with that. There's even sample commitment ceremony wording, because not every couple that loves each other is allowed to get married.

The background on this invitation design is white, so this design has maximum versatility. If you use a pastel or even richly colored card stock, the black motif on the side will layer over it and look lovely. Of course, you could also use white or ivory stock. You might even want to try one of the beautiful opalescent card stocks out now. They'll give you a fancy look for a relatively un-fancy price.

This free printable Valentine's Day party invitation has a design that should look familiar to young and old. It features pastel candy hearts, the kind that kids have loved to exchange (and eat) on Valentine's Day for decades. Because these candy hearts have been around for generations and are a part of so many people's memories, this valentine invitation is perfect for either kids Valentine's Day parties or for more sophisticated events thrown by adults. The illustrations incorporated into the design come from Picnik, the free online graphics program anyone can use. It's an amazing program. Check it out!

The art for this invitation is in a square format but you don't necessarily have to use it that way. (To see instructions for creating square invitations or to order from a selection square envelopes offered by Amazon, visit my free valentine party invitations hub.) You can also use the art as a rectangular card. For example, you could place the art on the top two-thirds of a 5" x 7" card, then tie a ribbon with a fun printed pattern around the bottom of the card. If you do, it might be a good idea to use some dry adhesive strips or dabs of glue to make sure the ribbons don't slide off the cards. You might also want to put small bits of glitter glue in the upper right corner of each heart, where there are currently starbursts. This will make the cards sparkle and look like they were professionally produced.

Heck, my little nephew wore a cap and gown when he graduated from nursery school, so there's virtually no minimum age level. And there's no maximum either. The more people there are who continue to learn, the better the planet will be.

Free Black and White Scroll Work Party Invitations

This elegant (if I do say so myself) free black scroll work printable party invitation was actually created for my birthday party invitations collection, but it has many more uses than that. The simple black stripe along the side contains beautiful ornate scroll work and goes perfectly with the stark white background that comprises the rest of the invitation. There's no mention of birthdays on the invitation, so there's nothing to stop you from using this for New Years Eve, tea parties, luncheons, bridal showers or any other classy event. Black is always in style, so I'm sure you'll find a use for this sometime.

I started this blog because I recently got the inspiration to design free printable party invitations. I've been distributing free clip art, vintage art and digital scrapbooking supplies for a while now, so the next logical step was to branch out into another area of printables. I love to throw parties and I've made my own invitations for years. I've even designed some for a few of my high school reunions. But it was only a few months ago that I started designing them for distribution on the Internet.

I get a lot of satisfaction out of designing invitations -- for several reasons. First, I love to design and this gives me a chance to do it. Also, I have to admit that I'm quite a nosy person. So I love to think about how people might use my invitations. I think about how a mother might use one of the birthday party invitations for a child's party, or how a womens group might use one of the tea party invitation designs. It gives me a chance to be a digital voyeur, but in a good and completely imaginary way.

Although I'll post plenty of printable invitations on this site, you'll find links to all my free invitations in the sidebar. There are also links to free matching clip art, when applicable, as well as to other party printables, such as table place cards and decorations. I hope you'll find all of these free resources useful!
